What can I expect during my first session?

Your first session is a brief 15-minute consultation focused on determining if we’re a good fit for your needs. During this time, we’ll discuss what brings you to counseling and your main goals for therapy. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions about the counseling process and share any immediate concerns.

We’ll briefly review our approach, scheduling options, and next steps. This initial meeting helps us understand if our services align with your specific situation and needs. Many clients find that even this short conversation provides clarity about their path forward.

By the end of the 15 minutes, we’ll determine if we should proceed with a full intake session or if a referral to another provider might better serve your needs. The most important thing to remember is that this first meeting is about making a connection and ensuring we can effectively support your journey.

Do you offer virtual/online as well as in person counseling options?

Yes, we offer both virtual/online and in-person counseling sessions to accommodate your preferences and needs. Our secure video platform ensures confidentiality during online sessions, giving you the flexibility to connect from the comfort of your home or any private space. In-person sessions are available at our office location, providing a warm, welcoming environment when you prefer face-to-face interaction.

How do you incorporate holistic practices like Reiki into your therapy?

Our approach integrates traditional counseling with holistic practices like Reiki to support your complete wellbeing. For clients who are interested, we may incorporate Reiki energy work alongside therapy to address both emotional and physical aspects of healing.

Reiki can help release tension, reduce stress, and promote a sense of balance that complements the cognitive and emotional work of counselling. Some clients find that this combined approach helps them process difficult emotions more effectively and creates a deeper awareness of mind-body connections.

The decision to include Reiki is always collaborative and based on your comfort level and therapeutic goals. We believe in meeting each person where they are, offering these practices as supportive tools rather than requirements. Our Reiki Master certification ensures these practices are delivered with proper training and professional standards.

Do you work with children and youth, and what approaches do you use with them?

Yes, we work extensively with children and youth, adapting our approach to meet their unique developmental needs. For younger children, we primarily use play therapy, art therapy, and other creative methods that help them express feelings and experiences they may not have words for yet.

With older children and teens, we blend these creative approaches with age-appropriate talk therapy, mindfulness techniques, and skill-building activities. We have special expertise working with young people experiencing anxiety, depression, bullying, self-esteem issues, ADHD, and trauma.

Our work with Indigenous children and youth incorporates culturally responsive practices that honour their heritage and recognize the impact of intergenerational trauma. Throughout all our youth services, we maintain close communication with parents/caregivers while respecting the child’s need for appropriate confidentiality and their own therapeutic space.
